Simplify your matcha routine with our Banko-yaki chasen kusenaoshi (茶筅くせ直し) — a bamboo whisk shaper made to restore the shape of your chasen. Handmade in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, Japan, this tool helps keep your whisk in good condition for smooth matcha preparation.
Why use a Kusenaoshi? Also known as whisk rests (茶筅休) or whisk stands (茶筅立), the kusenaoshi's main job is to fix the shape of your chasen, not just store it.
How to use:
-
Soak your chasen in warm water to soften the bamboo.
-
Press the whisk into the kusenaoshi, spreading the outer tines and bringing the inner tines together.
-
Only use with a wet whisk since bamboo is easier to shape when damp.
Care Tips: While you can leave your whisk on the kusenaoshi, we suggest letting it dry standing upright to avoid mold.
Design: This kusenaoshi has a smooth, light blue-green glaze that allows the chasen tines to move easily without catching. Our latest batch has a greener tone than the product photos — we’ll update them soon.
