Discover the art of matcha with Wanoiyori's bamboo chasen — a reflection of Japanese tradition and craftsmanship. Carefully carved from a single piece of bamboo, it strikes the perfect balance between flexibility and strength.

This shiratake (白竹) white bamboo Shin Chasen (matcha whisk) was handmade to high standards in China. Compared to most mass-produced Chinese chasen, this whisk is carefully finished in the shin shape, with elegant curves and delicately shaved tines.

The shin (真) shape is one of the most popular due to its graceful design and is preferred by students of both Urasenke and Omotesenke schools of tea ceremony (though the dark bamboo is more popular with Omotesenke). With roughly 64 tines, the shin chasen sits between dedicated usucha chasen, which have many thin tines for foamy matcha, and koicha chasen, with fewer, thicker tines for rich, thick tea. This versatility makes the shin chasen suitable for both light, frothy usucha and smooth, dense koicha.

After each use, rinse your chasen by whisking it in a bowl of water or running it under the tap, using your fingers or a cloth to remove any matcha residue. Avoid soaps, as they can damage the bamboo's porous surface. Let the whisk air dry thoroughly, standing upright to help maintain its shape and prevent mold growth. For added care, use a kusenaoshi — a matcha whisk shaper — to preserve its delicate form.

Due to the organic nature of bamboo and handmade teaware, slight variations in size, capacity, and appearance may occur, making each chasen truly unique.
